June 28 Daily Prayer & Update

Today’s Prayer – June 28

by Fr. Pete Literal, Pastor

Abba, Father in heaven, good and gracious God, we pray the Psalms today to You, “In you we find light, kindness, justice, strength, and protection.” Our minds and hearts are perplexed, because of the paradox we hear from the lips of Jesus, Your Son, as He calls us to become worthy of Your goodness and love. We need Your Spirit to strengthen our will to understand and know His way. We hear loud and clear that Jesus calls all Your children to follow Him. We hear Jesus boldly requiring us to do the next-to-impossible, or else, we are not worthy of You. We hear the shocking demand to love Him more than our parents, our children. Are all our efforts at virtue and the spiritual life we try to best live futile? Does He really raise the bar that high to help us? Do not give up on us.

Come, Holy Spirit, and make us understand the demand of Jesus’ call, and lead us gently to Your truth. Guide our hearts and minds to know Jesus’ ways and grant us courage and trust to follow Him at all costs. We claim to follow Jesus and we want to follow Him, but in our concrete actions we need your Spirit to enlighten us to do what we really need to do. To be worthy of Jesus, we need to enter into the type of life that constantly gives, that takes its cue first and foremost from You. Lord, You know that we are not worthy of Your love and goodness. We are not worthy of You. You know that despite our best efforts we will fall short of Your expectations. You know that in the reality of life we have the tendency to prefer our agenda to Yours. Lord, show us the way to follow You. Never give up on us.

We thank You for allowing Jesus to relentlessly pursue us, for inviting us to partake in Your mission, knowing that we are not worthy or qualified. We thank You for the invitation and the command to follow Him, to live in Him, and to love in the manner that Jesus loves. Help us to be worthy of You, to be worthy of Jesus’ call. We believe Your love for us qualifies us to Your call. We want to honor this trust and Your aspiration for us. Just say Your word, Lord, and at this moment our souls will find healing and strength to start afresh, to place You at the center of our lives and our choices.

We ask this through Jesus Christ, Our Lord.
