St. John the Evangelist School

“The family is the domestic church…the home is the Church in miniature.” – St. John Paul II

In the Catholic tradition, the family holds a special place–especially in the formation of faith. So important, in fact, that it is called “the domestic church.” This video invites families to reflect on being the Church in the world and what that might look like within their family.

Saint John the Evangelist Catholic School provides a comprehensive education rooted in Christian values and traditions. Our emphasis is on teaching the whole child – spiritually, intellectually, socially, and physically.

Well-Rounded Curriculum

We follow the Archdiocese of Baltimore Course of Study, and students attend specialty classes encompassing foreign language, technology, and the arts.

Preschool, a Strong Foundation

The Learning Cottage offers half-day and full-day preschool for ages three to five. The morning encompasses the entire curriculum, and the optional afternoon session offers enrichment activities. Preschoolers graduating from our program are well-prepared for kindergarten.

Small Classes, Personal Attention

With an overall ratio of one teacher to ten students, our teachers can help each child meet his/her individual needs. The already small classes are divided into flexible learning groups for subjects such as math and language arts to put like learners together.

Focus on Technology

Technology is an important component of daily learning at St. John’s. Interactive SMART Boards are in each classroom, and Microsoft Surface tablets are available for class projects. Our technology center provides a computer for each student during class.

Family Environment

St. John’s is like a family, both for our students and our parents. We encourage our students to become involved in the numerous extracurricular activities at the school and parish. Students and parents alike have many opportunities be involved and to get to know other families.

A Catholic education makes a difference. Students are encouraged to see themselves as important parts of a larger community and to make choices and decisions with a view of the common good. When our eighth graders graduate from St. John the Evangelist, they are equipped to excel at a Catholic, private, or public high school both personally and academically.

St. John the Evangelist welcomes prospective parents to visit our school. We host open house events throughout the year, or we can schedule a private tour for you. Please contact our principal, Christine Blake, at 410-592-9585 or
