May 31 Daily Prayer & Update – Pentecost

Today’s Prayer – May 31 Pentecost

by Fr. Pete Literal, Pastor

Abba, Father in heaven, Almighty and Merciful God, now we rejoice and shout with joyful praises for Your greatness and love. Today, we celebrate the Holy Spirit’s descent upon Your people. We come to know and understand why Jesus has returned to You in glory. The Holy Spirit, the source and giver of life, is now given to us that You remain with us, making us holy and strong as we respond to Your call of following You.

We celebrate today the power of the Holy Spirit, transforming us, Your fear-filled people on account of coronavirus, into a people of hope and joy. Now our hearts rejoice for we have the blessed confidence that we will never be alone. We thank You for the gift of faith and power of the Holy Spirit, empowering us, as Paul mentions in his letter, to say “Jesus is Lord.” “Yes, Jesus, is our Lord!” We thank the indwelling of the Holy Spirit upon our lives. You are our daily strength, the powerhouse that we can depend upon.

Come, Holy Spirit! Fill the hearts of Your faithful. We believe that this is a challenging time to follow Your leading during the pandemic. Help us to understand what Your indwelling can do to love You and others. Still fresh in our minds are the sacrificial passion, death of Jesus, Resurrection, and Ascension of Jesus into Heaven. We thank You for completing the work Jesus has begun in our lives.

Holy Spirit, come and empower us to respond to the question of what we shall do with Your gifts in our own time and place. Scripture reminds us that “There are different kinds of spiritual gifts but the Same Spirit; there are different forms of service but the same Lord… to each individual the manifestation of the Spirit is given for some benefit.”

Come Holy Spirit, help us to follow the leading to build up the faith community of St. John, and fulfill the mission You have entrusted with us. Anoint us with Your love that we may carry out Your mission in Your power. And reveal to each one of us that special gift we received to take our partnership in mission with Jesus up to the next level.

We ask this through Jesus Christ, Our Lord.

Pray the daily Sacred Scripture and be transformed in spirit and truth.
