June 2 Daily Prayer & Update

Today’s Prayer – June 2

by Colleen Sisolak, Director of Youth and Young Adult Ministry

Heavenly Father, as we awake to another majestic day, we cannot help but to see Your hand at work. Your beauty and grace surround us, even amidst the hurt and fear of this world. You share Your love for this world by providing us the words of love in the scriptures, and showing signs of Your presence through relationships with each other. We owe all to You.

Today, St. Paul reminds us to grow in grace and to be mindful that the day is coming when You will return and bring a new heaven and a new earth.  As this IS our belief, we MUST work to be “spotless” before You.  You will love us in our imperfection and sinfulness, but as we, too, love You, we want to do all that we can to please You, to make You the proud Father, and provide You a world that shows what You value.

In today’s Gospel, Your Son Jesus is tested. Oh, how we all know what it is to be tested! In an attempt to “Ensnare Him in His speech” – Mk 12:13, some Pharisees and Herodians came and questioned if they should pay taxes. Jesus responded, “Repay to Caesar what belongs to Caesar and to God what belongs to God.”- Mk 12:17. Today, we are also tempted with similar words when we are challenged in our love for Christ. Maybe we are not asked about our commitment to the state, but we are often lumped into a category of political party or world views. We even experience others trying to disprove our commitment to You, and Your son Jesus, looking for ways to exploit our failings and humanity as a sign that You do not exist. Yes, we have failed to show You the perfect love You deserve, but that does not mean You do not exist. You demonstrate Your presence in the mercy and forgiveness shown through the blessings You bestow upon us.

Lord God, forgive us for the times that we have judged others, when we’ve tried to trap them to show they are not part of Your family. We know that You do not want us to pass judgment, but to show Love.  This is how we make You proud, this is how we show our dedication to You. We are called to prepare for Your return and work to be spotless before You. Grant us the courage and strength to do all these things in your name.

Amen.
