Today’s Prayer – June 19
by Theresa Konitzer, Director of Religious Education
Today’s prayer comes from reflections upon the readings for the Solemnity of the Sacred Heart of Jesus from 1 John 4:7-16.
Thank You, God of all creation and lover of all, for it is through the Father, Son and Holy Spirit that we have a glimpse of Your unconditional love. A love that is so vast that it cannot be fully defined with mere human words. A love that is so great that it is beyond our thoughts and comprehension. Thank You for the gift of Your Son, who through Jesus, we learn of Your great love for us. For without Jesus’ great suffering and dying on a cross for our sins, we would not have the gift of eternal life.
It is through Your loving compassion that we come to You with prayers of healing and reconciliation. As Your children, we know that when we sin, like a loving father, You reach out to us with loving arms of forgiveness and joy to welcome us back. Loving God, help us to remember that we cannot say that we love You without showing that we love one another.
Let us pray. Almighty and eternal God, look upon the Heart of Thy most beloved Son and upon the praises and satisfaction which He offers Thee in the name of sinners; and to those who implore Thy mercy, in Thy great goodness, grant forgiveness in the name of the same Jesus Christ, Thy Son, who livest and reignest with Thee forever and ever. Amen. (Concluding prayer is taken from the Litany of the Most Sacred Heart of Jesus.)

Today’s Update – June 19
Parish Office Status
While the office is not yet officially open, we are actively working through the Archdiocese’s checklist of required items and protocols in order to safely open the office for staff and visitors. We anticipate being compliant and ready in early July.
While all staff are required to work remotely, there is a skeleton crew of staff members working in the office each weekday performing essential duties and monitoring the chapel usage during private prayer times. Should you have an urgent need, there is an emergency option when you call the main office phone number of 410-592-6206. You may call the parish office for other needs as well, and leave a message either on the appropriate staff member’s extension or on the general voicemail box detailing your need. You may also email staff members individually or email a general message to firstname.lastname@example.org.
Resumption of Ministries on Campus
Following the guidelines of the Archdiocese, ministries will be able to resume meeting on campus after the Ministry Assessment scoring has been completed. Ministry leaders and staff will be contacted to complete the assessments in the coming days. Only when the risk assessment has scored “low” may a ministry be scheduled to resume on-campus activities. At this point in time, ministry groups are encouraged to have meetings virtually (via Zoom or GoToMeeting), and not in person. The Conference Center will remain closed for group meetings at this time.
We Appreciate Your Patience
While we’re all craving a return to normalcy, we hope you understand that these guidelines are implemented to ensure the overall safety of parishioners, visitors, and staff. We want to establish an excellent worship and working environment at St. John, and at the same time comply with government recommendations and Archdiocesan guidelines. We will keep you updated on the status of operations as we progress.
