June 13 Prayer & Update

Today’s Prayer – June 13

by Fr. Pete Literal, Pastor

Abba, Father in heaven, because of Your encouraging words today in the scriptures, we are, indeed, filled with joy. We are happy that You are our God, who is always true and faithful to Your people. You speak to us in spirit and in truth and Your encouragement constantly calls us to live in Your truth. We praise You and thank You. Yes, we see how You show Your love for us and how You care for our lives and our tomorrow. We believe that in the atmosphere of truth, we can truly worship You and gain the peace and security we are seeking for our lives.

It is very right and just that truth must reign in us and among us. As Your word today exhorts that we must stand in the truth, we pray to You that we do not disappoint You. As children of light, it is our sacred responsibility to bear the light of truth in our world, communities, homes, and in relationships we try to build with each other. Outside of this does not come from You anymore.

Help us Lord, because we are easily manipulated by fake news or communications. People manipulate truth to their own advantage. Loopholes are common in contracts, laws, media, where anyone can wriggle loose from a commitment. We see a tendency among Your people to slip through a loophole instead of upholding one’s word when that would mean inconvenience, loss of money, or sacrifice. Help us O Lord, to be bearers and protectors of Your truth. Help us work on our own failings, because at times, we succumb to our selfishness. Direct our lives to walk in Your truth so that we can be free enough to serve You with fullness of joy and love.

Reflecting on the stories of Elisha and St. Anthony, whose feast we celebrate today, You lead us to see the sacred calling You shepherd us to. We believe You are the One who calls us, not because our knowledge or skills qualify us, but because You qualify us. Like Elisha and St. Anthony, common to our initial response is doubt and hesitation. Yes, we hesitate when we hear Your call, because we realize we are not worthy or ready, or we realize that we have unfinished business to attend to. But Your call pursues us and inspires us. We thank You for trusting us more than we trust ourselves. You see what is in the depth of our hearts. Amazing is Your confidence in us, Lord! Help us, Lord, to make our “yes” mean “yes.” Make us realize that You will not send us, unless Your grace cannot sustain us. We come to believe by Your grace that we are chosen, and by Your grace we are given all we need to respond.

As Elisha’s “yes” meant “yes,” and St. Anthony’s “yes” meant “yes,” may our response to your call also mean “yes” with the same sincerity, commitment, and trust.

We ask this through Jesus Christ, Our Lord.

Pray the Sacred Scripture and be transformed in spirit and truth.
