Today’s Prayer – June 23
by Colleen Sisolak, Director of Youth & Young Adult Ministry
Beautiful and loving Father, how blessed we are to have You. How grateful we are for Your son Jesus, and His words that bring us comfort, as well as challenge us. How strong we feel to have the Holy Spirit to guide us through this journey on earth.
“Do unto others whatever you would have them do to you.” This is the message of today’s Gospel.
Moment by moment, You give all to us – family, friends, coworkers, neighbors – so many people who show they care and love. Day by day, we look at all that we are given and know that simply being born in this day and this time, despite all the challenges it may bring, that we are blessed. Month by month and year by year, we grow. We grow in Your love, Your kindness, Your gentleness, and blessings. We grow in the gifts of the Holy Spirit – Wisdom, Knowledge, Reverence, Courage, Understanding, Council, and Wonder and Awe. We grow closer to joining You in Your heavenly kingdom.
You Lord , “Do unto us as You want us to do unto You.” Yet, there is the challenge, we do not nearly do unto You, as You do unto us. So often our days are not spent sharing the blessings You’ve provided or acknowledging the love You have given. Instead we are always looking for the next opportunity and not living in the current one. We are impatient and anxious. We anticipate and do not participate fully in the moment.
May we take these words so clearly articulated, “Do unto others whatever you would have them do to you,” and never forget that they are not simply intended for our brothers and sisters in Christ, but for the one who created us. May we challenge ourselves to live each moment for God, Christ, and the Holy Spirit as much as we can as a sign of love and gratitude for what the Holy Trinity has provided for us.
