Fr. Pete Literal
Rev. Pete D. Literal reported to St. John the Evangelist Church on January 1, 2018 as the new pastor, succeeding our beloved Most Rev. Richard Cramblitt, who has served our parish community for seven years. Fr. Pete, as he is respectfully called by many, will start his first celebration of the Mass on the following day.
Fr. Pete comes to St. John the Evangelist Church with a bagful of pastoral experiences. After his ordination in 1978 he was made a pastor in the Philippines and served in Archdiocese of Lipa for 10 years. He continued his ministry in the United States by joining the Chaplaincy Services of the Federal Bureau of Prisons and retired at the Central Office in Washington DC, as Religious Section Program Examiner of the Program Review Division after serving 20 years.
Fr. Pete joined the Archdiocese of Baltimore in 2009 and then served as an associate pastor at the Cathedral of Mary Our Queen. In 2013, he served as a temporary administrator of St. Thomas More Church in Baltimore City. Prior to coming to St. John the Evangelist, he served for 4.5 years as the associate pastor of St. Louis Church. While serving at these parishes, Fr. Pete successfully organized the Filipino ministry in the Archdiocese of Baltimore and formally formed a federation of religious, civic, cultural, alumni, and professional Phil-Am organizations called, Filipino Council of Archdiocese of Baltimore, that operates under the direction of the Department of Evangelization of Archdiocese of Baltimore. Now in his 39th year in the ministry, he continues to serve as chaplain of the Filipino Council.
