Today’s Prayer – July 1
by Deborah Jenkins, Administrative Assistant
Today we celebrate the feast of St. Junipero Serra, whose motto was “Always forward, never back.” St. Junipero established a mission on Baja California and the first nine Spanish missions in California. He baptized over 6,000, many of whom were Native Americans. He embodied the zeal and determination necessary to bring thousands of others to Christ!
We ask you, dear St. Junipero, to intercede for us, that we, too, may live exemplary lives that will draw people to want what we have! May we, through our words and deeds, bring Christ to others; be the light of Christ to others; and, see Christ in the face of others. In today’s Gospel, Jesus tells us to see good and not evil. “Hate evil and love good, and let justice prevail at the gate…” All around us it seems we are seeing so much evil and not the good that God expects of His children.
Please pray for us, St. Junipero, that we will not become despondent, but rather fervent in prayer that all our countrymen will turn back to the Son of God through prayer and fasting – just as you did. As we come upon the great holiday celebrating our independence this weekend, may we focus on all that is good about this great country.
We thank You, oh Lord, for blessing us with a land so bountiful in beauty and resources that all our citizens could prosper. May we never take these blessings for granted nor become complacent in our gratitude. For all those who have been denied the God-given rights of life, liberty and the pursuit of happiness for which we pride ourselves, help us recognize opportunities to share and lift up our brothers and sisters. Give us the strength, fortitude and foresight to provide for the most vulnerable among us, so that all might prosper!
Please watch over our country in this time of turmoil and help us to remember, as St. Junipero preached, “Always forward, never back!”

Today’s Update – July 1
Our Daily Bread and St. Elizabeth of Hungary Food Pantry Collection
Once again in July, we are coordinating the drop-off of both the frozen casseroles for Our Daily Bread as well as non-perishable food items for the St. Elizabeth of Hungary Food Pantry on Sunday, July 12 from 8:30-11:30 AM.
Due to the outdoor Mass at 11:30 AM that day, the drop-off location has been moved to the parking lot in front of the school building. Please do not bring any items into the narthex or the church hall.
Volunteers for both efforts will have their cars parked in front of the school for drop-off, and will remove your donated items from your vehicle. For safety’s sake, please wear a facial mask when dropping off.
Recipes and disposable casserole pans are available in the plastic bin in front of the parish office. The recipe is also available here.
